The JHS 3 Series Bit Crusher is part of JHS's affordable, simplified 3 Series range, built by JHS in Kansas City, Missouri, with three simple controls and one toggle. It was built specifically to do two things with precision: reduce bit depth and reduce sample rate, with a filter to shape the result. The Crush knob controls bit depth, running from full 24-bit resolution anticlockwise through to 1-bit clockwise, moving from unprocessed tone through grainy, textured sounds into square-wave aggression and gated digital distortion. The Sample Rate knob works anticlockwise from a clean 32.768kHz down to 2.5Hz, introducing aliasing and artefacts ranging from subtle harmonic shifts to metallic, ring-mod-like chaos and full digital collapse. The Filter knob shapes both - fully clockwise is unfiltered, and turning it anticlockwise sweeps the corner frequency for more filtering. The Type toggle switches filter character: down gives a second-order low-pass filter with no resonant peak, inspired by vintage synthesisers like Oberheim and well suited to bass guitar, while up sweeps a high-pass and low-pass filter in succession, focusing a band of mid-range frequencies reminiscent of a handheld game console. JHS notes the circuit uses a "zero-hole filter" - a theoretical signal processing concept it says had not previously found a practical application before being built into this circuit.

Free shipping is not available to WA, NT, TAS, or New Zealand. Freight charges for these locations will be displayed in your cart on checkout. If your delivery address is rural or our couriers can't service your area, we will ship via Australia Post. International shipping is currently limited to Revv Amplification products for New Zealand, with freight calculated at checkout. Purchasers are responsible for all incoming taxes and customs charges.
